Although I am a children's author, I love animals and am passionate about animal rescue and animal conservation. Caladrius Books was born when I decided to write a little e-book about a rescued dog called Champ. Once that was completed, I found myself becoming more involved in animal rescue stories, and wanting to do something more than just donate. Finding the collective name for these books was not as easy as I thought it would be. I wanted something interesting, meaningful, and somehow symbolic.
A bit of research took me to the Caladrius, which, according to Roman mythology, is a snow-white bird that lives in royal houses and
was known for its abilities to predict and enable healing. If it turned its
head away from a sick person, the person would not recover. If it looked at the sick person, the Caladrius
would then fly into the air, taking the illness with it, and the patient was
destined to make a full recovery. Thinking of the wonderful concerted efforts
rescue organisations go to so that animals do live, this seemed fitting. I chose the name Caladrius because the more I read about various amazing animal rescue stories, the more it becomes evident that love and healing go hand in hand. I hope that Caladrius Books will highlight the love and compassion of all the people involved in animal rescue, and how those qualities assist the healing process in rescued animals.
By purchasing Caladrius Books, you are helping others to save animals. Proceeds go to the various organisations involved in these rescues. If you know of an animal rescue story that deserves to be told, please contact me (email above).
Saving one animal may not change the world, but the world will certainly change for that animal.
